Car catches fire on road to Cleve

22 Oct, 2009 09:00 AM
Cleve emergency services were called out just after midnight on Sunday morning when a car caught fire on the Arno Bay to Cleve road.

A Cleve couple, returning home for the evening, were forced to evacuate the vehicle when smoke began pouring out from under the bonnet.

Cleve CFS and police attended the scene to find the motor of the vehicle on fire.

“I realised something was wrong when all the lights went out and the horn started blaring,” driver Julie Minge said.

“We got out of the car, called 000 and just stood back to watch it burn.”

The cause of the fire has not been confirmed but police believe it to be of an electrical nature.
