Arno Bay is the single biggest winner in the most recent round of State open space funding.
A total of $674,791 was awarded last month for the redevelopment of Turnbull Park.
After more than three years of concerted community consultation and government lobbying, the District Council of Cleve will now receive backing to redesign walkways, lighting, public seating, rest areas, street plantings and public art for the foreshore precinct.
Arno Bay Progress Association president Neil Wickstein has welcomed the chance to upgrade the ‘tired’ community asset.
“Turnbull Park is the centre for a lot of local activities – but I think once it’s improved we’ll see a lot more things going on,” Neil said.
“It’s a win-win for tourism, for shopkeepers and business, and also recreational users.
Neil said the funding was a vote of confidence for the Arno Bay community and its developing potential.
“Between the Arno Waters development and the proposals at Clean Seas the government obviously sees potential here too.”
The association spokesman congratulated the District Council of Cleve and CEO Tony Siviour for their “vision, perseverance and endeavours in sourcing funds” for the works.
Upgrades to the foreshore precinct have already been kickstarted by council and the progress association, with a new amenities block, upgraded supershed, heritage displays and signage.
A steering committee will now be established to facilitate the upgrade.
