A team of 12 local families have raised more than $21,000 for the Cleve Hospital as part of the biennial hospital auxiliary baby competition fundraisers.
The competition wind-up was held at the Cleve Golf Club last week.
“I’ve been really awestruck by the different fundraisers contestants and their families have undertaken this year,” auxiliary president Rosyln Schumann said.
“There’s been a fashion parade, a morning tea run in the town, quiz nights and many other wonderful ideas.
Rosyln said the auxiliary had been overwhelmed by the support for this year’s 12 contestants, especially in light of “the current economic conditions”.
Roslyn said this year’s fundraising efforts of $21,204.95came close to the competition’s record despite the smaller group of contestants than in previous years.
Top fundraisers for this year were Jarvis Richardson (0-6 months) who raised $2348.55, Elka Hartwig (6-12 months) with $3320.90, Macy Hartwig and Riley Masters (12-18 months) with $4598.60 and Charlie Stringer (18-24 months) with $2113.50.
Cleve Hospital executive officer and director of nursing Cathy Giersch gave her “sincere thanks” to the competition’s long-term supporters and fundraisers.
“I think there’s been a fantastic effort that benefits the hospital and everyone in the whole community,” she said.
“Thanks to the mums, thanks to the members of the auxiliary and everyone in the community that supports the competition.
